Frequently Asked Questions
Applications and Acceptance
Q: How do I apply for the program?
To apply, simply complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) form. This starts the process of assessing whether the program is the right fit for you.
Q: Am I guaranteed a place if I express interest?
Not automatically. Leah personally reviews every EOI to ensure the program will deliver real value for each participant. If your application is successful, you’ll be offered a place and advised of your anticipated start date. In some cases, a waitlist may apply, you’ll be notified if that’s the case.
Q: How long does it take for a response to an EOI?
You’ll receive a confirmation of receipt within 24 hours. Formal responses for Coaching, including offers of a place, are typically provided within 7 days. Responses for Intensives are typically provided within 48 hours.
Q: Can I have a discovery call prior to expressing interest?
Absolutely. Discovery calls are encouraged if you’d like to explore whether BoardCraft is the right fit for your goals. If you are unable to secure a suitable time using the Book a Call page please email hello@boardcraft.com.au with your general availability, and Leah will arrange a time including after-hours or weekends if that suits you better.
Experience of Coach
Q: How do I know this isn’t just theoretical advice from someone who’s never been in my shoes?
“Every tool, technique, and insight in BoardCraft comes directly from real boardroom experience. From both mine, and those of the high-performing executives I’ve observed over the past 30 years. I’ve sat on both sides of the table: presenting under pressure as an executive, and assessing performance as a Chair and Director. This isn’t theory, it’s lived reality.” Leah
Q: Are the strategies you teach actually used by successful executives today?
“Yes. The frameworks in BoardCraft are drawn from what consistently works; not just in theory, but in practice. I’ve watched what sets standout executives apart across industries and board cultures. The techniques are subtle but powerful and they reflect the habits and behaviours I see the best use every day.” Leah
Q: How current is your board experience do you understand today’s governance environment?
“I do. I maintain an active board portfolio across government, financial services, and impact-driven sectors. I’m deeply engaged in today’s governance challenges ranging from cyber risk to ESG scrutiny and regulatory complexity. What you’ll learn reflects today’s realities, not yesterday’s playbook.” Leah
Q: What’s your track record with other senior executives in similar roles?
“While I respect client confidentiality, I can say this: I’ve worked with executives across ASX-listed companies, public sector bodies, and purpose-led organisations. They include CFOs, Heads of Risk, Company Secretaries, and CEOs. They consistently report improved board effectiveness, clarity, and confidence.” Leah
Program Customisation & Format
Q: How is the program customised to my board relationships and challenges?
Every Coaching participant begins with a tailored assessment. From there, we adapt content, tools, and simulations to your context including board dynamics, relationships, and pressure points. This is not a generic program. It’s drawn from a rich resource base, carefully deployed to meet your specific needs.
Q: What’s the typical cadence of coaching sessions?
Most executives prefer 90-minute sessions either fortnightly or monthly. We’ll align the schedule with your board calendar and other priorities. Sessions are delivered in-person in Sydney, or virtually once a working relationship is established.
Q: Can we focus on preparing for specific board meetings or presentations?
“Absolutely. Some of our most impactful work happens when we’re preparing for a real board moment, whether it’s a key presentation, a difficult conversation, or a strategic paper. We can shift focus quickly to meet your immediate needs.”Leah
Q: What happens if my board situation changes during the program (e.g. new Chair, crisis, restructure)?
“We adjust. Whether you’re managing a new Chair, navigating a boardroom crisis, or facing stakeholder scrutiny, the program adapts. That’s the advantage of working closely together. We move with what’s real, not what’s theoretical.”Leah
Q: How is the coaching process structured for new participants?
The program begins with a deep dive into your goals, challenges, and board context. From there, we develop a tailored coaching plan that includes one-on-one sessions, capability tools, and real-world simulations. The process is structured, but responsive.
Q: Can the program be delivered fully online?
“This is primarily an in-person program. That is by design. There’s something powerful about working face-to-face. That said, once we’ve built rapport, occasional virtual sessions can be arranged to fit your schedule.” Leah
Q: What’s the time commitment for BoardCraft Coaching?
The program typically requires 20–24 hours over 8 to 12 weeks, depending on your preferences and session cadence.
Q: Is this focused on governance theory?
No. This is a practical, applied coaching program grounded in real boardroom dynamics. It’s not academic. It’s actionable.
Confidentiality & Professionalism
Q: How do you maintain confidentiality given the sensitive nature of board discussions?
Confidentiality is foundational. All coaching conversations are protected by confidentiality agreements. Leah understands the nuance and sensitivity of boardroom issues and won’t engage in coaching where there is any perceived conflict. Additional NDAs can be executed if needed.
Q: Are sessions recorded? Can I access session notes?
“Sessions are not recorded. This is a judgement-free space where candour matters. At the end of each session, we pause to capture key takeaways together, just like in an effective boardroom. You’re encouraged to take notes; I’ll take mine to serve you better.” Leah
Q: What happens if I need to reschedule a Coaching session?
We understand senior schedules shift. If you provide 24 hours’ notice, sessions can be rescheduled within the program period. Last-minute cancellations may incur a fee. Sessions must be completed within your agreed program window.
Progress, Feedback & Evaluation
Q: How do you measure progress and success in the Coaching program?
Progress is tracked through self-assessments, targeted feedback, and tangible shifts in boardroom performance. We define goals together at the start and we measure against what matters: your outcomes, your growth, your influence.
Q: Can we include a 360 review or feedback from my board or people leader?
Yes. Existing feedback tools can be integrated, and we can also facilitate structured input from your people leader or board. Where a formal 360 is appropriate, this can be offered as an additional service.
Logistics, Support & Practicalities
Q: What support is available between coaching sessions?
“I’m available for quick check-ins via email or text. For bigger issues, we’ll schedule time or use the EMERGENCY BUTTON (yes, that’s a real thing). This work is personal, and so is the support.” Leah
Q: How do you handle payment and are payment plans available?
The standard payment model for BoardCraft Coaching is 50% upfront and 50% at program midpoint. Intensives require full payment on registration. In special circumstances, payment plans may be arranged. All documentation for expense claims or professional development is provided.
Q: Is there follow-up or ongoing support after the program ends?
“Yes, and it’s often the best part. Many clients stay connected through alumni offerings or ad hoc sessions. I remain in your corner well beyond the final session. That’s just who I am.” Leah
Q: Can this be expensed as professional development?
Depending on your individual circumstances, program fees may be tax-deductible or reimbursable as a professional development expense. Tax invoices and supporting documentation is available on request.
Q: Is there a cohort size limit?
BoardCraft is primarily a one-on-one coaching experience. To preserve quality and ensure tailored feedback, Leah limits the number of executives she supports at any given time. Her coaching availability is intentionally selective.
Fit & Readiness
Q: What if I’m not sure the Coaching program is right for me?
“Let’s talk. A complimentary call can help us both assess fit. This program isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. You can also explore a BoardCraft Intensive as a low-commitment way to experience the work.” Leah
Q: Is this program for aspiring directors?
No. BoardCraft is designed for executives who work with boards and want to excel in that role. It is not designed to support a transition into a board career.
Q: I already have a strong board relationship — is this still useful?
Yes. BoardCraft isn’t just about fixing issues. It is about sharpening your presence, deepening your influence, and navigating what’s next with even more clarity.
